The Witcher 3’s Next-Gen Upgrade Gets A Release Date

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

December 14 has been marked as the release date for the next-gen upgrades of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. First announced in September 2020, these updates were initially supposed to arrive in the second half of 2021.

However, December 2020 also saw the arrival of CD Projekt Red’s other big project, Cyberpunk 2077, which received one of the worst launches in recent times. The subsequent time was then spent fixing the said game, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen versions taking a back seat.

This led to the studio aiming for a Q2 2022 release but that didn’t materialize either. Finally, December 14 is when the game’s long-awaited PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S updates will be rolled out by CD Projekt Red. They will be free for everyone who owns the game.

It’s been more than seven years since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt first arrived for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Its Nintendo Switch version came out in 2019. The game shipped over 40 million copies, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time.

Moreover, it’s also counted among the best RPGs of all time for its top-notch gameplay, narrative, world design, combat, and visuals. CD Projekt Red has since announced a number of new games from the franchise.

Among them is the first game from a completely new Witcher trilogy, which is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Another is a full remake of the original Witcher game that had come out way back in 2007. In addition, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is also in the works at the studio, apart from a game based on a completely new IP.

As we said, the next-gen upgrades for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available for free to all owners of the game from December 14 onwards.
