The inevitable has happened at long last, with Sony having announced an increase in the prices of all three PS Plus tiers. The new prices will go into effect from September 6 onwards so you have until then to add another subscription at the current prices.
It’s worth noting that for current 12-month subscribers, the price increase won’t take place until their next renewal date which occurs on or after November 6.
That being said, any membership changes made on or after September 6, including upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update the plan reflecting the new prices.
The base Essential tier and the top Premium tier, both get a 33 percent increase in their per-year prices, whereas the mid-tier Extra edition receives a 35 percent hike. Notably, these new yearly prices will still be getting you a discount when compared to 1-month or 3-month plans.
As for the new prices, the Essential version, which only offers online access and a few basic benefits will cost $79.99 per year. And the Extra version with the Game Catalog will go for $134.99 per year. The Premium tier, with classic games, will cost $159.99 yearly.
Calling this latest change a “price adjustment,” Adam Michel Director, Content Acquisition and Operations, SIE, has said that it “will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.”
Meanwhile, the Monthly Games lineup for September has been revealed as well. It includes the Saints Row reboot, Black Desert – Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero. Additionally, PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door will be leaving the library at the start of September.
As we said, September 6 is when the new PS Plus prices will take effect. The choice between renewing your subscription before that date or hoping for a Black Friday discount is up to you.
