Spider-Man 2 Becomes Fastest-Selling PlayStation Studios Game Ever

Spider-Man 2

Adhering to expectations, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 managed to sell 2.5 million copies worldwide within just 24 hours of its release. This makes it the fastest-selling game made by any of Sony’s proprietary studios, which now come under the umbrella of the PlayStation Studios branding.

Spider-Man 2 now has beaten games from big gun franchises like God of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us. Moreover, the sequel has also left the original Spider-Man behind, which had taken three days to reach 3.1 million in sales, a figure set to be overtaken by the new entry.

High amounts of anticipation have driven these record-breaking sales numbers. The original game and its continuation, Spider-Man Miles Morales, were showered with immense praise by fans and critics alike. Moreover, Spider-Man 2 has opened to rave reviews as well.

But not everything has been smooth sailing for the new game. A controversy of sorts erupted when it was noted that a flag in Miles Morales’ room belongs to country Cuba rather than Puerto Rico, where his mother hails from.

These Cuban flags have also been spotted in other locations in the game, where the Puerto Rican population has been shown to reside. At the heart of this blunder is the fact that the flags of both countries are very similar to each other, with colours being the only difference.

Developer Insomniac Games has acknowledged this mistake and promised to fix it with a patch soon. Speaking of patches, the makers had advised gamers to apply their day-one update before they get going with the game, as it included polish updates, bug fixes, and more.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available for purchase now exclusively for the PS5 with a premium price tag of $69.99.
