Sony has announced that the upcoming Astro Bot game will be launched alongside a special limited edition controller dedicated to the titular character. The brand-new device features a special livery and even mimics Astro Bot with a playful pair of eyes.
It’s a regular DualSense controller, complete with adaptive triggers and unique haptic feedback that will come to good use when rendering Astro Bot’s trademark experience. As you can see in the image above, the device features white-coloured sticks and triggers and carries a blue accent on both sides.
But what really impressed us is the pair of eyes that can be spotted on the controller’s touchpad. It looks like these will light up when the controller is turned on and react with different expressions during gameplay. And we hope they even blink when the controller is sitting idle.
Nicolas Doucet, Studio Head, Team Asobi, called the controller a “true work of art,” adding that the team “could not be happier with the end-result.”
Unlike Astro’s Playroom, which was launched as a controller showcase for the PS5 in 2020, Astro Bot will be a full-length game. With 3D platformer elements, it will task gamers with beating over 80 levels, which are split across six galaxies and 50 planets.
Astro Bot will once again lay a lot of focus on making the most of the advanced mechanics offered by the DualSense controller. The game will look to mimic various in-game textures by transferring their effect on the controller.
Astro Bot, and with it, the limited edition DualSense controller will be released on September 6. Both are available for pre-order right now via major retailers across the US, with the game retailing at $59.99 and the controller at $79.99.
