Helldivers 2 Players On Steam Need To Link PSN Accounts To Continue Playing [EDIT: Sony Backtracks]

Helldivers 2

Edit: Following the immense backlash by fans regarding Sony’s move to mandate the linking of PSN accounts with Steam to continue playing Helldivers 2, the company has relented. It conveyed through a Twitter post, “The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.”

Original Story: To say Helldivers 2 has been having a dream run since its debut in February this year would not be unrealistic. The game has received immense acclaim from critics and unbounded love from players. However, there now seems to be a bump in the road for those who play it on PC.

Arrowhead Game Studios has made it known that the Sony-published game will require all Steam users to have their PSN accounts linked in order to continue playing. As a result, hardened Helldivers 2 fans have started a review-bombing campaign that has led to its Steam rating taking quite a hit.

Meanwhile, Sony’s side of the argument is that linking the account helps protect the gamers from “griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour.”

This new mandate will come into effect from May 6 onwards, when all new Helldivers 2 players will forced to connect their Steam account to a PSN account. As for those who are already playing the game, they can continue doing so until May 30 without linking the account.

Thankfully, a PSN account is easy to create on the web. The Sony Entertainment Network website allows you to do that in minutes. Once that’s done, you can enter your new credentials in the game to continue playing it.

Helldivers 2 acts as a sequel to 2015’s Helldivers, which was a top-down shooter. This game however has taken the third-person shooter route and offers cooperative play. It has been released for both PS5 and PC and features optional cross-play support between the two platforms.

If you’re a Helldivers 2 player, you have until May 30 to keep enjoying the game without linking a PSN account.
