Set in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been announced as the next title in the popular series that’s ready to hit PC and consoles this November. Revealed to feature two protagonists, the game was first mentioned back in 2022 under its working title, Assassin’s Creed Code Red.
Staying true to the tradition of the series, this title’s narrative will intermingle with historically significant moments. It will be set in 16th-century Japan, towards the end of the Sengoku period when power struggles raged between lords to unify the provinces.
The first protagonist is named Naoe, who happens to be a female shinobi equipped with the series’ much-loved hidden blade weapon. The other protagonist is based on a real-world figure named Yasuke. He’s believed to have been an African samurai who served the feudal lord Oda Nobunaga.
The development of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being led by Ubisoft Quebec, the team responsible for the Syndicate and Odyssey entries of the franchise. It will be made available for PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Not a lot has been revealed about the gameplay but the trailer does provide some hints. Naoe being a shinobi means that the stealth-focused abilities will be heavier on her side. And Yasuke being a samurai will give him intense sword skills.
Ubisoft has confirmed that the open-world setting of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will include “spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and pastoral landscapes.” Exploration and squad building will also form part of the experience.
November 15 is when Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released for the masses but Ubisoft+ subscribers as well as buyers of the collector’s edition will get a three-day early access pass. It’s worth noting that the game will be playable on M-series Mac machines from day one.
