Alan Wake And Control Film And TV Rights Sold In Return For Financing Control 2

Alan Wake 2

Remedy Entertainment has struck a unique deal with Annapurna Pictures that will see the latter financing half of Control 2, in exchange for owning the film and TV rights for Alan Wake and Control. That said, the full IP rights to both these franchises will still be retained by Remedy Entertainment.

It’s worth noting that Alan Wake and Control take place in the same universe. This gives Annapurna Pictures a huge opportunity to leverage the two IPs in film and TV form. The Remedy Connected Universe, as it’s called, doesn’t include any other games from the company’s repertoire.

Announced in November 2022, Control 2 officially entered full production earlier this month. Its development should now receive a big boost with the announcement that Annapurna Pictures will finance 50 percent of the process.

According to the agreement between the two entities, Remedy Entertainment will get a greater revenue share from game sales after the initial investments have been recouped. On the other hand, Annapurna Pictures will receive a bigger revenue share from the film and TV productions.

And it looks like some kind of integration of the interactive and audiovisual properties is definitely on the cards.

Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna, has said, “The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life.”

Apart from Alan Wake and Control, Remedy Entertainment also owns a few other big IPs, including Max Payne, which is receiving a remake for the first two games from its series. And then there’s Condor, a live-service Control spin-off, which too is in development right now.
