Paper Mario: The Origami King gets announced out of the blue

Paper Mario: The Origami King

Without any teasing or preceding leaks, a new entry to the beloved Paper Mario series has just been announced by Nintendo. Paper Mario: The Origami King is all set to hit the Nintendo Switch on July 17 with its comic levels filled with puzzles, quirky characters and stunning visuals. Under development from the veterans over at Intelligent Systems, the game promises to be yet another smash hit for the Switch console.

The story of this new offering features quite a twist, even as it has Bowser teaming up with Mario in an unlikely alliance. They are both together to fight against a malevolent figure named King Olly, who has taken over the series’ papercraft world, forcing even Bowser’s own minions to work for him. On top of that, Princess Peach is also acting very strange. Paper Mario: The Origami King is all set to introduce a new ring-based battle system that marries puzzle-solving skills with the series’ trademark turn-based combat.

Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said about the game, “Paper Mario: The Origami King delivers a grand new adventure on Nintendo Switch for players to wrap themselves up in. This game marks the debut of the Paper Mario series on Nintendo Switch, expanding the vast library of games with another standout entry in a beloved franchise.”

The last main entry to the Paper Mario series had come in the form of Paper Mario: Color Splash, released in 2016 for the Wii U console. A few spin-off games have arrived for other platforms as well, but The Origami King marks a new installment to the main series.

Like we said, Paper Mario: The Origami King will be released for the Nintendo Switch on July 17 as a full-priced game costing $59.99 (approximately Rs 4500).
