GTA V to reportedly go free on Epic Games Store

GTA V

Back in 2013, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V after years of teasing its unique three-character gameplay, and the game received immense acclaim and landfall sales upon launch. Seven years later, its popularity may have diminished but not by a large margin, all thanks to the continuous updates that are being doled out for the game’s GTA Online component. Those who are still to experience the game can grab it for free now, even as the Epic Games Store is apparently about to add it to its giveaway program.

Earlier today, the Epic Games Store Twitter account momentarily published a tweet mentioning that GTA V will be free to claim till May 21. Someone at the company probably jumped the gun on the tweet, as it was immediately deleted after some time. But not before a screengrab was captured by a Twitter user named @Wario64 (via Eurogamer). This free copy is expected to be the Premium version of the game which will include additional content as well as access to GTA Online.

GTA V was initially launched only for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but was soon ported to their successors. To much fanfare, the game made its way to PC in 2015 with updated graphics. While the game’s campaign is a fun-filled affair, GTA Online is what most gamers are indulging in at the moment. It allows up to 30 players to freely roam across the open-world environments of the game and enter lobbies to complete jobs. Rockstar Games regularly keeps doling out updates and organizing events for this part of the game.

If you’re interested in grabbing a free copy of GTA V for yourself, keep your eyes peeled on the Epic Games Store Twitter account.
