Report: Sony Prepping New DualSense Controller With Longer Battery Life

PS5 DualSense

If you’re a PS5 owner, you’ll be well aware of the short battery life its controller suffers from. Sony has seemingly decided to address this by launching a new version of the DualSense that should almost double its battery life without changing anything else; not even the price.

A listing for a DualSense V2 controller was recently spotted on Best Buy Canada and has started speculations about when Sony will announce the said device. The listing, which has since been taken down, mentioned that the device offers “Exceptional 12-hour battery life, on a full charge,” according to The Verge.

Notably, its all-important price was also mentioned on the retail giant’s website. $89.99 CAD is apparently how much buyers of the DualSense V2 will need to cough up in Canada. This price is consistent with that of the regular PS5 controller in the country, so that’s great news.

The weight of this controller has been listed as 280 grams, which is the same as that of the first-gen DualSense, so there’s no change in that department as well, despite the increase in battery life. All other features of the device will seemingly stay the same.

The DualSense controller was launched along with the PS5 in November 2020 and was highlighted by its vibrotactile haptic as well as its Adaptive Triggers. These were the key distinguishing factors between the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, with the former’s controller not featuring such high-quality haptics.

Interestingly, the DualSense is also a top choice for PC gamers who like to play using a gamepad. A DualSense V2 would hence be looked forward to by a big audience. Let’s see when Sony decides to go official with it.
