New Witcher Trilogy, Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Announced by CD Projekt Red Along With New IP

The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red has big plans for the future and why shouldn’t it, given that it owns the rights to one of the biggest franchises in gaming right now? We’re talking, of course, about The Witcher franchise, which has at least three games under development at the moment.

Moreover, Cyberpunk 2077, which suffered a disastrous opening and took its own sweet time to recover from it, has also been revealed to be getting a sequel. The third big announcement from CD Projekt Red is about a completely new IP being developed from scratch.

One Witcher game was already announced by the studio earlier this year and it has now been codenamed Project Polaris. It will be developed in-house by a 150-strong team and will mark the start of a new trilogy.

As was previously revealed, this new game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. According to an IGN report, CD Projekt’s joint CEO Adam Kicinski said during an investor call this week that it’s more than three years away from launch.

The second Witcher game is called Project Sirius and is being touted to be an innovative take on the series. It’s being helmed by Flame in the Flood developer, The Molasses Flood. The third one, titled Project Canis Majoris is a story-driven single-player open-world RPG helmed by a third-party studio.

Further, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is codenamed Project Orion and is being handled by CD Projekt Red. Work on it will begin in full swing after the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion for the original game.

The final big announcement from the company is that of Project Hadar, the game based on a completely new IP. It’s currently in the conceptual phase and its development will be 100 percent in-house.

That’s a big slate to keep track of but you don’t quite need to right now as each of these games still has years to go before they manifest into something viewable.
