A New Witcher Game Is Officially In Development

Witcher 4

The news that Witcher fans had been waiting for is finally here. CD Projekt Red has officially announced a new game to the series with a teaser image but has not revealed much else. Naturally then, there’s no release date to look forward to.

The teaser image that CD Projekt Red has released features a witcher medallion with glowing red eyes, that’s covered in snow. The tagline reads, “A New Saga Begins.” What we also know is that the developer will be switching to Unreal Engine 5 for this game, instead of opting for its in-house RedEngine.

This comes as part of a “multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games.” And in case you’re wondering whether this means that it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, you can breathe easy as the company has said in a Twitter post that it’s “not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront.”

“This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences,” CD Projekt Red said in a release.

Fans need not expect this next entry to the Witcher series to arrive any time soon. CD Projekt Red is known to take its own sweet time in creating its games. Cyberpunk 2077, its latest game, was announced in 2012 and was only released in 2020 and that too, in an almost-broken form.
