Bohemia Interactive has released experimental update version 1.17 for DayZ that adds Cookware damage to the game, among a number of other things. As the makers note it, this update is focused on accessibility and crafting and can be downloaded now on Steam and the Xbox One.
Fans of the game have been asking for several things to be added to the game, with one of them being making DayZ cross platform. While those requests haven’t been heeded by the developers yet, something that almost no one demanded has made its way into this experimental update – Cookware damage.
Everything, including Cookware stands will now receive damage when used over time. This applies even to utensils made of stainless steel. On the plus side, lard will no longer be required when preparing food. Another welcome addition is that gas mask filters are no longer ruined when depleted and can be refilled using charcoal tablets.
This experimental update for DayZ even implements a new system of universal temperature sources. For instance, torches increase a character’s heat comfort in a subtle way. Lastly, 3 new civilian firearms have been added to the game, aside from pitchforks and craftable spears.
DayZ’s new experimental update introduces a new control scheme for consoles. This aspect is completely optional and is meant to collect feedback to evaluate any need for adjustments in the future.
The experimental version of DayZ takes place on separate servers and is generally a less polished version of the game used for testing new features. Based on the feedback that is received on such updates, the developers release features into the stable version.
DayZ players can now download experimental update 1.17 and experience the new changes themselves.
