DayZ Standalone closed beta on its way, passing up of earlier release date explained

The DayZ Standalone release date was scheduled for sometime in December last year, but its maker had missed the mark, and has now come out with an explanation for the same. Besides, there’s news that the game will first be tested by means of a closed beta which will be aimed at making sure that the its architecture is functioning as it should. The developer has even mentioned that a few fresh additions have been entered into the title, the details about which can be spotted in the space below.

DayZ Standalone

As most know, DayZ was initially launched as a complex mod for Arma 2 by Kiwi game designer, Dean Hall. Its immense popularity then virtually forced him to consider creating a whole new game out of it. In August last year, he finally announced that he will indeed be going ahead with the project. Through a new blog post, Hall has disclosed that the standalone game hasn’t been launched as yet, because his team believes that actually redeveloping the engine and making the title the way they dreamed is better than just making slight changes to the mod.

As far as the question of the closed beta goes, the developer announced that the closed test will be conducted with about 500 to 1000 gamers. It has also been revealed that the test will only be focused on the title’s architecture, and not its game design. A confirmed launch date for it will only be formulated when issues arising from the test will be fixed.

Changes that have made their way to the game include an overhaul of the inventory and item management system, which has been completely removed and rewritten. The game’s UI is being developed from the start as well. Hall has stated that a major inspiration in this department comes through the UI of Minecraft.

Gamers can expect the launch date of DayZ Standalone to fall anytime later this year. This open world survival horror title revolves around a zombie-outbreak which has taken place in the fictional nation of Chernarus. As of now, it can be played in the form of a mod which applies to Arma 2.
