Saying that Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch will be an understatement. While the game came out to very favorable reviews, most of the praise was directed towards its PC version and some towards its Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions. However, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game were riddled with bugs and game-breaking glitches, leading to widespread criticism and ridicule. Developer CD Projekt Red has finally acknowledged this and offered to refund the money of those who purchased the game on the two platforms.
Through a statement issued by the company, it has apologized for not sharing footage from the last-gen console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 prior to launch. They further added, “We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.” It has also promised to fix the many bugs that have been plaguing the game, with one patch already having been rolled out. Another one is set to arrive this week, while two large patches are planned for January and February.
The statement reads, “Together these should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles. They won’t make the game on last-gen look like it’s running on a high-spec PC or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.” As for refunds, PS4 and Xbox One users will need to use the PSN and Xbox refund systems to get their cash back. Those who have bought physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077 will need to return them at the stores they bought them in.
Despite all this, Cyberpunk 2077 has still managed to break records. The game was responsible for helping Steam cross the 24 million concurrent users mark, breaking the previous record of 22 million which was reached at the peak of the pandemic in March.
