PS4 Eye camera to let you issue voice commands, Sony confirms

There was a rumor making the rounds about the PS4 Eye camera possessing the ability to recognize your voice to control its interface. But just as it was gaining steam, Sony decided to issue a statement which confirmed this feature, but did not explain how. The company however has mentioned that details regarding it can be expected to be out during the lead up to the PS4’s release dates.

It all started during Sony’s presentation at the recent GameStop Expo 2013 in Las Vegas. SCEA’s group manager of retail training and advocacy, Sean Coleman highlighted the upcoming console’s various abilities. When the focus moved towards its Eye camera, the surprising revelation about its ability to recognize voice commands came to the fore.

To be exact, the slide which gave away this information, read, ‘From navigational voice commands to facial recognition, the PlayStation Camera adds incredible innovation to your gaming.’ A YouTube user named lex1020 has uploaded the a video of the presentation which we’ve embedded in the space below for you to see. The PS4’s fiercest competitor, the Xbox One too features such an ability which is provided to it by its Kinect accessory. According to a recent revelation however, the Xbox One will offer the said feature at launch only in five countries, while others will be getting it later on.

It’s not quite sure how exactly Sony has planned to use voice recognition using the PS4 Eye camera, but we’ll have more on it when concrete details are out.
