Xbox One won’t be listening to you outside US, UK, Canada, France, and Germany

In a new revelation, it has come forth that the Xbox One will have its voice commands working only in a total of five countries at launch. Microsoft has posted this in fine print on its official Xbox website (thanks GameSpot), but has failed to disclose the reason behind it. Thirteen countries are supposed to get the next-gen machine this November, and the new disclosure means that eight of them won’t be able to control its functions using the Kinect’s voice command feature.

US, UK, Canada, France and Germany are the five nations who don’t have to worry about it, but gamers from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain and New Zealand will indeed be disappointed by this news. The voice feature on the Xbox One throws at you the ability to issue simple commands in order to control the functions of your console. These include powering on the system, switching to different programs, launching apps and more.

Unveiled for the first time in May this year, this next-gen console from Microsoft is still to receive an official release date, even as its fierce competitor has already been granted its entire launch information by Sony. The system comes equipped with a number of new features, but some of those were not quite well received by the community. Prime among those were its DRM restrictions which were repealed due to gamer backlash. Microsoft was also forced to take two other such U-turns following discontent among fans.

We’ll keep you updated with more news regarding the Xbox One as and when it’s out.
