Sony Gamescom 2013 highlights: PS4 release date, Vita price drop and more

These Sony Gamescom 2013 highlights have quite a few surprises filled inside them. While the PS4 finally received a release date which gamers all over the world can look forward to, the long awaited PS Vita price drop was also made a reality by Sony through its press conference. Moreover, A number of big games for the PS4, the PS Vita as well as the PS3 were thrown some light on at the meet. Without much delay, let’s have a look at how it went.

Sony Gamescom

Gran Turismo 6 release date:

December 6 was revealed as the day on which GT 6 will be hitting the PS3 worldwide. Along with that, a trailer for the game, showcasing some concept cars designed specifically for it was also put out. And that’s not all; a film adaptation based on the Gran Turismo series was announced, but details about it are extremely scarce at the moment.

LittleBigPlanet Hub:

A free-to-play offering titled LittleBigPlanet Hub will be arriving for the PS3 sometime later this year. It will involve creating levels and maps for others to play and explore.

Grand Theft Auto V partnership:
Among the other Sony Gamescom 2013 highlights was a partnership between the company and Rockstar Games. All those who pre-order GTA V via the PS Store will be granted a 75 percent discount on any other game created by the developer.

New PS Vita games:

A big announcement came in the form of Borderlands 2’s Vita debut. It will be seen coming out later this year, but there’s no word on an exact release date. Chucklefish’s Starbound will be hitting the Vita as well, along with Fez and Velocity 2X which will also be PS3 and PS4 bound, respectively.

MurasakiBaby is a new and interesting title that got revealed for the PS Vita as an atmospheric 2D puzzle platformer. Also aimed at the handheld is Big Fest which is a free-to-play music festival simulator.

Vita price drop:
Another one of the big Sony Gamescom 2013 highlights is the price drop for the Vita which will now take its value down to 199 USD (approx. Rs 12,625) in North America and 199 Euros (approx. Rs 16,925) in Europe. Additionally, the price of its memory cards is also set to go down.

New PS4 games:
A large number of PS4 games from independent developers came forth at the press conference. Among them were Rogue Legacy (also for Vita), N++, Volume, Guns of Icarus Online and Wasteland Kings (also for Vita). Moreover, The Binding of Isaac will be hitting the console next year as well, along with Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (also for Vita). These and number of other indie games will be supported by the Japanese company for release on the PS4 and the Vita. The full list can be spotted here.

Remote Play demonstration:

The Vita’s Remote Play capabilities on the PS4 were showcased by means of a playthrough of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. And it was disclosed that ‘almost all PS4 games can be played remotely on the Vita.’

Twitch.tv:
Twitch.tv will be coming to the PS4 indeed, and so will a revamped version of Music Unlimited. The latter service will get a new interface and fresh features that will even allow it to play music in the background.

Minecraft finally on PlayStation:
After making waves on PC and Xbox 360, Minecraft will continue with its legacy on the PS4 as well as the PS3 and the Vita. No mention of when it will be released for these machines was made however.

12GB PS3:
The 12GB PS3 model which was earlier exclusive only to the UK, will now be launched in the US and Canada with a price tag of 199 USD (approx. Rs 12,625).

PS4 release date:
A whopping 1 million PlayStation 4 units have already been pre-ordered announced the company at the conference, while revealing that it will be launched in North America on November 15 and in Europe on November 29.
