This festive season is all set to be an exciting one for gamers in India, as Sony has announced that it will officially be launching its new slimmer PS3 right before Diwali. Identical to the UK release lineup, it will ship in the form of two editions – 500GB model and a 12GB flash memory model which is expected to be on the ‘affordable’ side of things. The pricing for both will be announced closer to their launch, as it is subject to change based on exchange rate scenarios in the country.
The new PlayStation 3 has been endowed with completely redesigned internal design architecture. This has reduced its internal volume and weight by more than half as compared to the original model. And if the values are to be compared with the current Slim model, the reduction in volume and weight comes to 20 percent and 25 percent, respectively. It has even been fitted with a sliding disk cover on its revised body.
The launch scenario is somewhat different for North America where the initial release will only take place in the form of bundles. There, the new PlayStation 3 will be released in 250GB and 500GB capacities, packed with copies of Uncharted 3: GotY Edition and Assassin’s Creed 3, respectively. Availability of the 12GB flash memory model is still to be confirmed for this region. On the other hand, UK will be getting the 500GB and the 12GB versions, with the former being bundled with FIFA 13 and a month of free PS Plus subscription.
