Putting an end to the long-running rumors, Sony today unveiled a new PS3 model which is smaller as well as lighter than its predecessors. Unofficially called Super Slim, this hardware was unveiled during the company’s press conference at the ongoing Tokyo Game Show in Japan. It will be made available in 250GB, 500GB and 12GB versions, and will release in September.
As far as North America is concerned, it will be launched in the form of a limited edition bundle featuring Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: GotY Edition and a voucher offering more than 30 USD (approx. Rs. 1,620) worth of bonus content in the free-to-play game, Dust 514. This pack will contain a 250GB model, and will be made available on September 25 with its price tagged at 269.99 USD (approx. Rs. 14,585). Moreover, the 500GB version will be bundled with a copy of Assassin’s Creed 3 and a free 30-day PS Plus voucher, and will be doled out on October 30. It will go for 299 USD (approx. Rs. 16,150). Standalone models of the new PS3 will be made available later on.
In the UK, the scenario is slightly different. A 500GB model will be launched there along with a 12GB flash memory model. The 500GB model will be released on September 28 in the form of a FIFA 13 bundle, priced at 299.99 Euros (approx. Rs. 21,110). The 12GB hardware will be launched on October 12 as a standalone edition at 229.99 Euros (approx. Rs. 16,245). Owners of this version will be able to connect it to a 5 inch SATA internal hard drive by making use of an official Mounting Bracket. They can even opt for an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD.
