Halo Infinite’s Campaign Co-Op To Exclude Online Matchmaking

Halo Infinite

Under the weird release schedule that Halo Infinite had, the game’s campaign was launched sans the series-favorite co-op mode, with it being reserved for a 2022 release. And as we inch closer to its arrival, it has been revealed by Microsoft that this campaign co-op mode will not come with support for any online matchmaking.

Unlike other games from the series, like Halo Reach MCC for instance, Halo Infinite players will need to find their co-op partners on their own if they wish to play the campaign cooperatively. Microsoft has moreover, made it clear that it has no plans to add online matchmaking to the game’s campaign co-op mode in the future as well.

Halo Infinite’s campaign multiplayer is currently in public beta and is not too far away from a full release. Amidst this, an Xbox spokesperson has cleared the air around its co-op plans in a statement issued to Games Radar. Further, they have directed players towards the new Xbox Discord service for finding like-minded campaign players.

This will definitely not go down well with a large chunk of players. But then again, it’s something a number of developers have been doing lately as well. As many third-party platforms like Discord are acting as playgrounds for finding co-op partners, developers are deliberately keeping online matchmaking out of their games. Destiny 2 is an example.

Halo Infinite was made available in December last year. Its unique release schedule meant that its multiplayer beta had arrived months earlier and has since been free-to-play. At the time of its full release, the game did not have a campaign co-op mode as well as the Forge mode that allows gamers to play around with maps and environments.
