Battlefield 2042 Gets Delayed Into November

COVID-19 related delays have affected one more game’s release date, with Battlefield 2042 being the latest victim. The multiplayer-only shooter was supposed to arrive on October 22 but its release will now take place almost a month later, on November 19.

Earlier today, rumors had started spreading that a delay for Battlefield 2042 was imminent. The fact that there had been no announcement on the game’s planned beta tests was one of the factors that were fueling these speculations. Thankfully though, this delay is not a big one.

In a statement shared on Twitter, DICE wrote, “Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.”

The studio concluded the message by saying that more information about the Battlefield 2042 beta is coming later this month. This statement sort of indicates that it won’t be happening in September after all.

Announced in June this year, Battlefield 2042 steers away from the historical settings of its two predecessors had adopted. Despite its multiplayer-only approach, it tells a story set in the future where the world reeling from the devastating effects of climate change. Amidst this, the EU has collapsed and the US and Russia are engaged in a war.

Battlefield 2042 will now be released for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 19.
