Battlefield 2042 Getting PC And Console Crossplay Support With Some Curbs

Battlefield 2042

It has been confirmed that the upcoming Battlefield 2042 will allow crossplay, however, not all platforms will be able to play with all others. In its latest Battlefield Briefing, EA has confirmed that there will be two pools of players, rather than one single mixed group.

The publisher has said that PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S players will be able to play Battlefield 2042 together but will have an option to opt out of mixing PC and consoles if they so wish. PS4 and Xbox One owners will also be able to play together but separate from other platforms.

Battlefield 2042 will even come with a cross-progression system across all platforms, allowing them to pick up where they left off in case they decide to switch platforms. This means “cross-commerce” support will be present as well, which means your purchases on PlayStation will be accessible on PC or Xbox.

Announced last month, Battlefield 2042 is all set to be the seventeenth installment to the much-loved series. It will be a multiplayer-only affair but does feature a narrative that involves a crisis-hit world reeling from the effects of global warming. Amidst this, Nomadic refugees have taken up arms and are offering their services to the US and Russia, who are fighting a war.

Battlefield 2042 will support 128-player battles on PC and new-gen consoles, while last-gen console versions will have the cap set at 64 players. This explains why the PS4 and Xbox One versions have a separate crossplay system. EA has also confirmed that the playable area on the maps on these consoles will be smaller.
