Battlefield 2042 Is Multiplayer-Only, Coming This October

Battlfield 2042

The leaks were right and Battlefield 2042 will indeed be set in the future. What’s unexpected though is the fact that the game will have no campaign when it hits consoles and PC this October. Another big decision made by DICE is the exclusion of a battle royale mode. Perhaps it is being reserved exclusively for the upcoming mobile venture of the series.

Battlefield 2042 is set to support 128-player battles on PC and new-gen consoles, whereas last-gen console versions will have the cap set at 64 players. Those who wish to play against bots will have the option to do so, whether they are playing solo or with friends.

Despite the game’s multiplayer-only route, it does have a story to tell. Battlefield 2042 will take place against the backdrop of a crisis-hit world that’s reeling from the effects of global warming. Amidst the chaos, nomadic refugees known as the Non-Patriated (No-Pats) have taken up arms and are offering their services to the US and Russia, who are fighting a war. The game will also introduce specialists who will have unique traits and abilities to complement their classes.

The Battlefield 2042 trailer has revealed plenty of gameplay scenarios that include deploying dog-like robots, gliding with wingsuits, driving hovercraft and tanks, and much more. While one map will have you battle it out in the middle of a tornado, another was shown to feature a space rocket that can be completely destroyed.

October 26 is when Battlefield 2042 is slated to hit the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A gameplay reveal has been planned by DICE for June 13. Perhaps they’ll do that during Microsoft’s games showcase at the E3, which is happening on the same day.
