Battlefield 2042 Getting Short Film Tie-In To Explain Multiplayer Story

Battlefield 2042

DICE has made the unusual choice of excluding a single-player campaign from Battlefield 2042’s repertoire. However, that doesn’t mean that the multiplayer-only game is devoid of a narrative. The makers had revealed a few details about its climate change-focused storyline, but they have now announced a tie-in short film to keep the fans engaged before the game’s release.

Titled Exodus, this standalone short is all-CG and is set to premiere on YouTube on August 12. Not much has been revealed about it but for a tiny teaser featuring slick visuals. This short film will act as a prologue of sorts to the main storyline of Battlefield 2042’s multiplayer mode.

Details revealed by DICE earlier had said that this story takes place in a world that’s crippled by climate change. Amidst this, Nomadic refugees have taken up arms and are offering their services to the US and Russia, who are fighting a war.

Recently, it was also revealed that by the developer that Battlefield 2042 will come with crossplay support. However, players from all platforms won’t be able to play with all others. There would essentially be two pools of players. PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S players can play together but will have an option to opt-out of mixing PC and consoles. And PS4 and Xbox One owners will also be able to play together but separate from other platforms.

A cross-progression system will also exist on all platforms, allowing you to pick up where you left off in case you decide to switch platforms. This also means there will be “cross-commerce” support, meaning your in-game purchases on PlayStation will be accessible on PC or Xbox.
