Sid Meier’s Civilization V Gets Steam Workshop Functionality

After Skyrim and Portal 2, it’s now the turn of Sid Meier’s Civilization V to join the Steam Workshop club. Under this integration, players of the turn-based strategy title developed by Firaxis Games will be able to browse through, comment on, rate and subscribe to the game’s mods directly from Steam.

Instead of hosting them on random websites, authors will be allowed to post their mods on the Steam Workshop where they will instantly be made available to other gamers from around the world. Fans can then browse through these mods in-game or on the website. This way, they’ll be able to keep a track of mods from their favorite authors. Furthermore, they can even create mod collections to share with their friends.

Sarah Anderson, senior vice president of marketing for 2K, revealed, “Civ fans now have the added benefit of using Steam Workshop for their Civilization V modding. With this partnership and the Civilization V: Gods & Kings expansion pack due out on June 19, it’s a great time to be a Civ fan.”

Released in 2010 for PC and Mac, this game has players leading a civilization from prehistoric times into the future. Everything takes place on a procedurally-generated map where gamers must achieve a number of different victory conditions through research, diplomacy, expansion, economic development, government and military conquest. A new expansion for the game titled Gods & Kings is all set to release on June 19.
