Portal 2 Authoring Tools Beta Available on Steam

Allowing gamers to craft a world within the mysterious Aperture Science Centre facility, Valve has designed a set of expedient tools for enthusiasts. A blog post on the official Think with Portals website has announced that the free beta of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools is now up for grabs for PC gamers via Steam.

Touted to be the same set of tools used by the team behind the original game, this introduction will help players translate their imaginations into gameplay. They will have the power to design both single player and multiplayer co-op maps. Besides, this beta makes it possible for gamers to develop new character skins, 3D models, sound effects and more.

The Authoring Tools beta comprises an updated version of the Source level editor dubbed Hammer with an upgraded Faceposer. Gamers can make the most from the updated suite of command-line compiling utilities and illustrated maps and instances.

PC gamers who own a copy of the title can download the Portal 2 Authoring Tools directly from Steam. The option has been neatly placed under the ‘Tools’ Lab in their Steam account.
