Sony’s PlayStation 4 China launch has been delayed due to ‘various factors’

Sony PlayStation 4 PS4 Controller

With just a few more days left for the PlayStation 4 to hit the Chinese market, Sony has disclosed that the console’s launch has now been pushed back. The delay comes out of the blue and the company doesn’t even have a straight answer why it won’t be selling the system on January 11 which was the intended availability date.

The cause of the delay isn’t known and as mentioned above, Sony isn’t giving out the details either. All the company has to say is that ‘various factors’ are behind the issue. EuroGamer is reporting this information citing Reuters as its source. If this isn’t enough bad news for gamers in China, no new release date for the PS4 has been provided.

As you probably know, even the PS Vita was scheduled to go on sale on the same day. Sony, however, hasn’t disclosed whether the launch for the handheld has also been delayed. The PS4 will cost 2899 Yuan (approx. Rs 29500), while the portable console is tagged at 1299 Yuan (approx. Rs 13215).

In recent news, Sony revealed a couple of days back that its PS4 sales had crossed the 18.5 million mark and the holiday sales itself managed to peak at 4.1 million. Additionally, the company announced the launch of its subscription model for the PS Now service.

It looks like gamers in China will have to either wait a bit longer for the Sony PS4 or go for Microsoft’s console which has been on sale since September last year. It’s highly unlikely that the company will delay the system’s launch by a huge margin, so expect to hear a new release date soon.
