Sony announces discounts and extensions for PSN subscribers

This holiday season turned out to be horror for PSN enthusiasts all over the world owing to unannounced downtime on the network, orchestrated by hackers. Sony has already apologized for this, but has now decided to offer a small compensation to all PlayStation Network members by presenting a discount as well as an extension to their PS Plus memberships if they have one. Both these incentives aren’t available as yet, but subscribers of the service will be duely notified when they are live.

Sony has decided to grant a 10 percent discount code for one-time use on anything you purchase on the Play Store. This discount will be applied to your cart, so no matter how much content you buy, 10 percent will be taken off its total value before it becomes yours. As for the extension of the PS Plus service, it will only be offered to those who had active memberships or free trials on December 25, so as to only benefit those who were affected by the downtime

This extension will be made available in the coming days, and will be applied automatically. Sony has said that if your PS Plus membership or trial ends before the extension is made available, you will be furnished with a five-day extension nonetheless whenever it becomes available. It has also promised to notify you once it’s provided to you. The company has revealed that the list of free games for PS Plus subscribers in January includes biggies like inFamous: First Light, DuckTales Remastered and more.

Both PSN and Xbox Live were taken down by a hacking group named Lizard Squad during this holiday season. While the latter managed to go online quickly, Sony’s service took a bit longer to come back to normal again.
