PSN and Xbox Live fall to hacking attack, outages being experienced worldwide

Sony and Microsoft have found themselves in quite a tizzy as a hacking group has reportedly managed to trigger network outages on both the PSN as well as Xbox Live. Players cannot log into any of the two services right now, but a point of relief is that no personal information seems to have been compromised by this attack. A group named Lizard Squad has taken responsibility for it through their Twitter account, and gaining attention seems to be the only reason they have done this.

This attack took place right on Christmas day, as if it was aimed at spoiling the mood of millions of gamers from around the world who wished to treat themselves to some good gaming hours during the holidays. While PSN still appears to be offline, the services of Xbox Live are resuming slowly but steadily. Both Sony and Microsoft have acknowledged the outages and have revealed that they are working on fixing them.

Like we said, a hacker group named Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility of this attack on Twitter. As GameSpot says, they have probably perpetrated the attack by inundating and overloading the networks with traffic. They haven’t revealed any reason for having done this, which makes it clear that the recent Sony Pictures controversy has nothing to do with this. A supposedly North Korea-sponsored hacking attack leaked several important documents of the film company in protest of the movie ‘The Interview’ which apparently pokes fun at the country’s supreme leader.

PSN and Xbox Live are expected to be back online soon, so keep checking your consoles from time to time for that.
