Gamers have been waiting since forever for news regarding The Last Guardian to finally show up in some form or the other, and here’s something they can calm themselves reading. Fumito Ueda, who’s acting as the designer for this game, has issued a statement, revealing that the title is still under his creative supervision, and is being developed by an ‘incredibly talented’ team. What is noteworthy however, is his advice to fans, asking them to ‘keep an eye out’ for an official announcement regarding the game.
This has led many to believe that The Last Guardian could indeed be making an appearance at the PlayStation event on February 20, which is also being expected to feature the first glimpse of Sony’s next generation console, the PS4 or the Orbis, as some like to call it. Brushing aside any responsibility related to the release date information of the game, Ueda has asserted that this matter is in the hands of Sony alone.
The iconic designer is often cited to be the main brain behind the extremely revered Ico and Shadow of the Colossus games that were released for the PS2 in 2001 and 2005, respectively. His company, Team Ico (owned by Sony) was hit with a heavy blow when in 2011, he decided to quit as a full-time employee of Sony. However, showing his commitment to the project at hand, he decided to work as a consultant on the project, while also pursuing other interests.
This latest game from Team Ico is currently slated to arrive only for the PS3, but with the impending PS4 announcement, Sony might as well also release it for the new console. The title saw its first ever trailer being unveiled at E3 2009, and at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show, it was disclosed to have been slated for a late 2011 launch. After shifting its release once more, into 2012, complications followed, and the game again remains without any launch information. Its first and only trailer has been embedded in the space above for fans to watch.
