The announcement of the PS4 is apparently slated to take place at the PlayStation 2013 event which was revealed by the Japanese giant earlier today. With a tagline that says, ‘See the future,’ the company has unleashed a new campaign teasing a meeting that’s set to take place on February 20. Now, the obvious guess definitely points out to the announcement of the new console, but a few reports seem to be contrary to that.
This speculation about the PS4 was started when the PlayStation Twitter account, its Facebook page and its blog, all simultaneously posted links to the page which features the PlayStation 2013 announcement. Along with a vague video which we’ve posted in the space below, this address features the event date, its timing and a sign-up tab for interested parties to enter their email ids so as to ‘be the first to know’ about what this is all about.
The event is scheduled to commence at 6pm Eastern Standard Time. For India, this translates to 4:30am IST, so PlayStation fans may want to set their alarms accordingly. That the next big things in the console business will be unveiled this year is a fact that cannot be denied. Although reports in the past had indicated that E3 will be the stage for both Microsoft and Sony to showcase their new machines, it had later come to light that they will be doing it prior to the big event, and will be reserving the E3 for revealing the next-gen titles for their hardware.
There are speculations coming in about the February 20 showcase being aimed at the reveal of something related to the Gaikai cloud-gaming platform, but it seems highly unlikely for Sony to disappoint its fans after building such anticipation. In another piece of information, Sony’s CEO and president, Kaz Hirai had recently disclosed that it will wait for Microsoft to unveil the Xbox 360 successor first, in a bid to keep the specifications a secret from the competitor.
This is another report that seems to contradict the expectation of the PS4 being ready to be unveiled at the event in question. In any case, Sony has set the ball rolling, and speculations will only be laid to rest come February 20.
