God of War: Ascension Given Away by Amazon, Teaser Trailer Leaked Too [Update]

The cat was out of the bag before Sony could do anything about it, as retailer Amazon let the world know about God of War: Ascension for the PS3 through its accidental early listing of the game. The page has since been pulled off, but that only made way for a leaked teaser trailer we’ve posted below.

God of War: Ascension

Joystiq spotted the Amazon listing and was quick to report about the leak. From what we could make out from the trailer, and also from what is being speculated around the web, this game is set to be a prequel to all the five titles that have been released under Sony’s extremely revered God of War franchise. Not much information is currently available about the title, but the official announcement should take place next week, enlightening us with more details, and probably a release date too.

It was January, 2012 when the first hearsay regarding the game started making the rounds. Musician, Timothy Williams plunked the words God of War IV on his resume, thus revealing the title. On being contacted for confirmation, Williams seemingly hadn’t hesitated while saying that he was indeed ‘working on it (the game) in the capacity of orchestrations and some additional music,’ but Sony had shied away from commenting on the topic. Williams had also disclosed that while he was only working on an additional score, Tyler Bates, the man behind the scores of Army of Two: The 40th Day and Transformers: War For Cybertron, was the main composer.

This revelation about God of War: Ascension by Amazon comes at the exact time when Sony’s Facebook page seems to be aiming at gathering momentum with teasers of the game ahead of the official announcement. We reckon the confirmation should come early next week.

Update: Well, perhaps the leak has propelled Sony to reveal the title earlier than expected, as it has showcased it on the official PlayStation blog. Not many details have been outed, but April 30 has been announced to be the date for a live streaming event that will allow fans to have a glimpse of what’s in store for them in the game.
