Elden Ring’s First Expansion Announced

Elden Ring Expansion

From Software has confirmed that an expansion for Elden Ring is currently in development in its studios. Not much information has been provided by them, however, the makers have indeed shared an image along with the name of this expansion – Shadow of the Erdtree.

This announcement was made by From Software on Twitter. “Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together,” reads the tweet. “An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between.”

The artwork accompanying this tweet could offer a few clues as to the contents of this DLC. It appears to show a blonde figure riding on Torrent, the player character’s horse in the game. In the distance, a dying Erdtree can be seen surrounded by fog-laden hills.

Fans are speculating that the figure on the horse is Miquella, the twin brother of Malenia. He was cursed to be forever young and is known to have created the Haligtree to allow himself to grow to be an adult and to purge the rot from Malenia.

There have been plenty of references to Miquella in Elden Ring but we’ve never actually seen him. That will perhaps change with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

Elden Ring came out early last year and was immediately met with tremendous acclaim from critics and gamers alike. Available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the game has sold 20 million copies to date.

As we said, the release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring is not known at the moment. We’ll have more on it when new details are out.
