Nintendo details its first ever mobile app Miitomo

February 17 is when interested gamers will be able to start pre-registering for grabbing the Miitomo app when it’s made available by Nintendo, the company has announced at its latest investor briefing. President Tatsumi Kimishima has revealed that both the iOS and Android versions will be made available for registering.

Miitomo will be less of a game and more of a Mii avatar-based chat and photo app. Expected to be fully released in March this year, it will have your Mii avatars chat up with those of your friends and reveal information which you wish to share with them.

It will be a free-to-play offering, and will probably use microtransactions for letting you buy extras like clothes and accessories for your Mii avatars. Starting February 17, gamers will also be able to create their Nintendo Accounts which will act as the company’s new registration system.

These will be tied up with their existing Network ID, social networks or their email address, and will also host a new My Nintendo rewards program which will come in place of the old Club Nintendo. Those who pre-register for this upcoming app will receive a free Platinum point in the new service.

Miitomo has been revealed to be a ‘friendly communication starter’ by its makers. It will not only allow you to talk to your friends in a unique manner, but also perhaps let you know newer things about them. This is not the only Nintendo mobile game scheduled for this year, as there are more in the pipeline.
