Nintendo’s NX console begins shipping to developers, details leaked

There are several problems plaguing the Nintendo Wii U console, with underpowered hardware and lack of third-party support in terms of games being two of them. It’s perhaps this that has led the company to forget is normal cycle, and come up with a successor way earlier than expected.

Nintendo is currently busy developing a console codenamed NX which is set to be unveiled to the world sometime in 2016. While not much is known about this machine right now, we have been greeted with some important details that have hit the web.

According to Eurogamer, The Wall Street Journal has found out that the Japanese company is now shipping software development kits to developers. This will help them create games for the console in time for its launch which is most likely to take place during the 2016 holiday season.

The report mentions that the NX will come with a ‘mobile unit’ and ‘industry-leading’ chips. The former is the subject of many speculations, as it could mean a number of different things. It could either be used along with the console or without it.

This could mean that the separate mobile unit of Nintendo’s new console will work with the main console, and will also act as a successor to the 3DS range of handheld systems. Another speculation is that the separate unit may be a fresh touchscreen-based controller which according to a recent patent from the company, has shoulder scroll wheels.
