Nintendo set to enter mobile gaming arena, mentions mysterious ‘NX’ hardware

Nintendo has thrown two bombs today, with one among them being bigger than the other. The company has taken the much anticipated step of entering the mobile gaming arena and has announced a partnership with Japanese mobile firm named DeNA for the same. However, what’s surprising is that it has vaguely talked about a ‘dedicated game system’ which is being referred to as ‘NX.’ There are little to no details about this machine, but there’s no harm in guessing that it’s the gaming giant’s new home console.

According to Eurogamer, more details about this mysterious device are to be revealed next year, says Nintendo. 2012 was when the Wii U was brought into the worldwide markets, and by console standards, releasing a new system in 2016 will mean that the company is rushing into things a lot earlier than expected. But then again, its current-gen console is not doing well to compete with bigwigs like the PS4 and the Xbox One anyway. Our guess about the ‘NX’ being a next-gen home console may be wrong as well, but we’ll need to wait until next year to be certain.

Like we said, Nintendo has finally decided to enter the mobile gaming space. Information about the games and the chosen mobile platforms has been kept under the shroud for now, but the company has revealed that it will be making its mobile push with the help of DeNA. While the game development, art and more will be handled by Nintendo, DeNA will be providing back-end services and server knowledge.

Lastly, Nintendo has also announced that it will be introducing a new membership service to replace Club Nintendo soon. It will work across PC, mobile, 3DS, Wii U as well as ‘NX.’
