Nintendo Finally Confirms Wii’s Successor System, to be Showcased at E3 2011

The month of April had a lot of interesting news bits surrounding the rumored Wii 2. The whole hype pertaining to the system’s successor first started when word of a Nintendo Wii price cut emerged. It was claimed that the console would have a price tag of $150 which was slated to start on May 15, 2011. A few days later, the gaming terrain was abuzz with news that the price drop may have something to do with a new system that was codenamed Project Cafe.

Now Nintendo seems to have put all those rumors to rest as it officially declared that there will certainly be a successor to the Wii. This newly-announced gaming product is scheduled to launch next year onto store shelves. According to the company, the Wii has sold 86.01 million units on a total shipment number since it unleashed back in 2006 till the end of March this year.

Nintendo has further enticed gamers by revealing that a playable model of the latest console will be displayed at E3 this year, as earlier fathomed. The E3 Expo is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on June 7-9, 2011. The company also said that the sales of the new console will not be considered in the financial forecasts that were released today for the fiscal term ending March 2012.

Besides the fact that the Wii’s successor system is a reality and that it would be showcased at E3, Nintendo has held back any other sort of details or product specifications. The company is although expected to shed light on more information during E3 Expo this year.
