Wii 2 Controller to Boast of 6.2-inch Touchscreen, Two Analog Sticks?

The clout of rumors surrounding the Wii 2 or Project Cafe, as it has been allegedly codenamed, doesn’t seem to mellow down even a bit. As we’d reported last week, gossip mills in the gaming domain have been streaming rumors that Nintendo is now planning to dish out a new home console. Some more apparent details about the system have now surfaced in the terrain, further fortifying that a successor to the Wii could be for real.

Nintendo Wii 2

Kotaku has reported that the Wii 2 will have an ‘unusual controller’ wrapped with two analog sticks, a camera, eight buttons and a wide 6.2-inch touchscreen. What’s more, the arrival of the new system does not necessarily lead to the end of the Wii Remote either. This supposedly means that during co-op play, gamers could employ different controllers altogether.

Apparently, the embedded 6.2-inch display on the controller will be engineered to wirelessly obtain content from the console. This is said to help gamers sort their inventory or route through maps directly from the controller’s screen. In addition, it is expected to capture images which can be imported into a game or switched to ‘some sort of glorified viewfinder.’

Whether the Wii 2 and its controller would function as mentioned above or employ a completely different form cannot be ascertained at this point. With so many rumors flying around, it seems that the gaming domain could itself sketch out a few prototypes of the Wii’s successor. So until the gaming giant comes out with the real picture, we can only lend an ear to these gossips.
