Xbox One closes 2014 with some pretty impressive sales numbers

The Sony PlayStation 4 may have hogged up a lot of Xbox One sales early on, but Microsoft has still managed to land a huge achievement. The console has become the best selling gaming system in the US for the months of November and December.

No exact figures of how many consoles were purchased have been provided, but Microsoft has stated that the Xbox One sales for the last two months of 2014 were around 50% stronger than the Xbox 360. The company also revealed that the latter has become the ‘best selling seventh generation console of all time’ in the US.

Overall console sales in general have had a great year. Joystiq is reporting based on data revealed by NDP Group that hardware sales seen a 20% increase, while software on the other hand, didn’t do all that great with a 13% drop compared to 2013.

Microsoft claims that it even sold more Xbox games than any other current-generation platform in the US for the months of November and December. And to celebrate its achievement, the Redmon company has announced that it is launching a new US-only promotion where the Xbox One console will be available for purchase at a discounted price of $349.

In other news, Sony has also experienced some record-breaking console sales. The company revealed that the PS4 system managed to achieve a milestone of 18.5 million units sold since its launch. The holidays sales alone topped at 4.1 million and the PS Online service is said to now have a user-based of 10.9 million subscribers.

Starting today, you’ll be able to pick up the Xbox One console at the promotional amount in the US and it comes sans the Kinect sensor. There’s no word on how long the new offer will last.
