Sony Acquires Savage Game Studios In Major Mobile Push

Savage Game Studios

Sony has made known its acquisition of Savage Game Studios and has announced its integration into a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division. It has been revealed that this division will be focused on creating mobile games based on popular PlayStation franchises, though, no specific titles have been mentioned.

Sony has made big efforts in branching out of its console-only approach recently. A number of its big offerings have been taking the PC release route, including the likes of God of War, the two Spider-Man games, and more. One of them, Death Stranding, even unexpectedly made its way to Microsoft’s PC Game Pass recently.

Savage Game Studios was started in 2020 but doesn’t have any game out yet. However, its co-founders Michail Katkoff, Nad Adjir, and Mike McManus have several years of experience in the mobile gaming arena.

“We’ve all worked at big studios and while we respect the advantages of ample resources, we wanted to stay small and nimble so we could call our own shots,” wrote Katkoff in a post on the PlayStation blog. Sony has also revealed that this team is working on an “unannounced AAA mobile live service action game.”

Sony has indeed made mobile efforts in the recent past but they’ve never been ambitious projects. Ahead of the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the company had put out a puzzle game titled Uncharted: Fortune Hunter on Android and iOS. The endless runner named Run Sackboy! Run! was a similar offering as it came around the time that LittleBigPlanet 3 was launched.

As we said, there is indeed at least one game based on a AAA IP under development from the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division but no information about it has been made available.
