Another addition to Sony’s cannon of game IPs turned movies or TV shows is Horizon Zero Dawn. The show is reportedly being developed along with Netflix, whereas the God of War series likely coming to Amazon Prime Video. There’s even a Gran Turismo show that is in the works apparently.
That’s unfortunately the only new information we have right now. There are no details on a release window or what the plot approach for these shows will be. The Horizon Zero Dawn series is the latest iteration of Sony’s strategy of diversifying its IPs in an apparent attempt to bring more audiences to its games.
The one most likely to arrive the soonest is The Last of Us TV series that’s currently in production at HBO. This show will retrace the original game’s story, with Joel and Ellie being played by Game of Thrones stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively. Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame has written the script along with game creator, Neil Druckmann.
Like the Horizon TV series, information about the God of War TV series is also scarce. All these new details are claimed to have been revealed by Sony President Jim Ryan during an investor briefing. The Japanese tech and software analyst David Gibson has corroborated this information via his Twitter.
Some adaptations that are already in the pipeline officially include a Ghost of Tsushima movie and a Twisted Metal series. The Ghost of Tsushima movie is being written by Chad Stahelski, who is known for directing the John Wick trilogy. As for the Twisted Metal series, its cast is known to include Anthony Mackie, Neve Campbell, and Stephanie Beatriz.
Horizon is fast turning out to be a killer franchise for Sony. Two critically acclaimed games have already penetrated the market, while a third game is lined up for release as a VR special. And with this new Netflix show in the offing, there are great things in store for fans.
