With the global pandemic raging on, it’s no surprise that films are getting delayed and the same is the case with the Uncharted movie, which has been blessed with a new release date. Thankfully though, it’s just a week’s delay with the new date being February 18. The Tom Holland starrer was earlier supposed to hit theaters on February 11.
The Uncharted film is no stranger to delays though. It has been under development since as far back as 2008. If all had gone well, the film would have hit theaters in 2016 or 2017. However, several scriptwriters and directors kept hopping on and off the project from time to time, not helping its cause. And then the pandemic came along, leading the film to miss its March 5, 2021 release date. At one point, July 16, 2021, and October 8, 2021, were also supposed to be its release dates.
This upcoming movie is based on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the first game from the series, and tells the origin story of the lead character, Nathan Drake. It has been written for the screen by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who have penned scripts for Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone before. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer has handled the direction duties.
While Tom Holland plays the lead character, Mark Wahlberg has been roped in to play Sully. Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali, and Tati Gabrielle are also included in the cast. Filming for the Uncharted movie is wrapped and its theatrical run will include an IMAX 3D release, aside from other formats.
Recently, Ghost of Tsushima was also announced to be getting the movie treatment, while another Sony franchise, The Last of Us is being turned into a TV show by HBO.
