Ghost of Tsushima Is Sony’s Next Game-To-Film Franchise

Ghost of Tsushima

Sony has confirmed that a Ghost of Tsushima movie is in the works, making it one more of its franchises to get the screen treatment. You may know that an Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland has already finished filming, while The Last of Us is being turned into an HBO show as well. Chad Stahelski, best known for directing the John Wick trilogy, has been roped in to helm the film.

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are behind the Ghost of Tsushima film, while Sucker Punch Productions will act as executive producer. It’s still very early to discuss the cast or release timelines and if past game-to-movie adaptations have taught us anything, we should be well prepared for huge delays.

Nate Fox, game director at Sucker Punch Productions said, “We’ve all been brought to tears in a movie theater surrounded by strangers. (Thanks a lot, E.T.) We’ve all gone to a movie on opening night when the crowd is so excited that they cheer as the lights go down. It’s a group experience that isn’t replicated anywhere else. To think that we could sit in the theater someday watching Jin Sakai up on the big screen is amazing. We’d all relive his tense transformation into the Ghost from a whole new vantage point.”

Fox also said that more than 6.5 million copies of Ghost of Tsushima have been sold to date with around half of those people having completed the game. Ghost of Tsushima was released in June last year as an action-adventure stealth game, which puts you in the shoes of a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.

We’ll have more on the newly announced Ghost of Tsushima movie once more details are out.
