The Last Of Us TV Show To “Deviate Greatly” From Game, Confirms Creator

The Last Of Us HBO

HBO’s The Last of Us is looking more and more promising each time new details about the TV show are emerging. In the latest bit, the game’s creator Neil Druckmann, who is also serving as executive producer on the series, has confirmed that it would sometimes “deviate greatly” from the game.

If you’re unaware, HBO’s The Last of Us is set to chronicle the events of the first game, showing them in live-action form. Druckmann has said that while the dialogue in some places “stays pretty close” to the exchanges found in the game, the makers feel that “the philosophical underpinnings of the story” are more important, which is why the TV series will take different approaches at some points.

“It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts,” Druckmann said in an interview with IGN. “And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium.” He also added, “Some of my favorite episodes so far have deviated greatly from the story, and I can’t wait for people to see them.”

Pedro Pascal of Game of Thrones, Narcos, and The Mandalorian fame will be seen playing the role of Joel in the show, while Ellie’s character will be played by Bella Thorne, who had impressed everyone with her performance as Lady Mormont in Game of Thrones. The series is being adapted by Neil Druckmann, along with Craig Mazin who was responsible for the multiple award-winning limited series, Chernobyl. The show’s pilot will be directed by Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov.

HBO’s The Last of Us still hasn’t started filming, so there’s nothing to look forward to in terms of the release timeframe.
