Nintendo announces Miitomo release date finally

Miitomo, Nintendo’s first foray into the smartphone game arena isn’t too far away from a release, as March 17 has been marked down as the date on which that will happen. However, there’s a huge catch to this situation. Nintendo will only be releasing the game in Japan on that day.

The company has moreover, stopped short of mentioning when Miitomo will be made available for those from other parts of the world. Those interested can pre-register for it until Wednesday. Since the game is not meant to the launched in India, you won’t be able to get it officially.

However, you can always use a VPN client in order to pre-register and hope that the final copy doesn’t arrive with any geographical restrictions. Miitomo will mark the beginning of Nintendo’s entry into the smartphone space, which it has been avoiding for a very long time for some reason.

Miitomo

While many were expecting it to be a proper game, Miitomo turned out to be more of a social networking offering. It has been described as a free-to-start title that will be a Mii avatar-based chat and photo app.

Once it’s up and running, Miitomo will have your Mii avatars chat with those of your friends and reveal information which you wish to share with them, and perhaps even some details that you don’t intend to reveal. It’s hard to determine what the unique selling proposition of this game is but considering it’s Nintendo, we’re definitely hoping it surprises us once it’s out.

Miitomo is slated to be released for Android as well as iOS devices at launch. Like we said, while it will be launched in Japan on March 17, there’s no ETA for other regions of the world.
