Paying heed to the thousands of fan petitions asking BioWare to change the ending of the game, the developer has announced a new Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut free DLC which will look to offer further clarity on the story’s conclusion. Slated to be made available during summer for free, this content will be doled out for the PS3, Xbox 360 as well as PC versions of the title.
Last month, the co-founder and CEO of BioWare had responded to fan concerns through an open letter saying that the developer accepts all the criticism and feedback with ‘humility.’ This is when he had announced that such a DLC is being worked upon and will be outed in the future. But while fans have been asking a completely new conclusion to the story, BioWare has confirmed that the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut free DLC will merely expand upon the events at the end of the action RPG. Additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes will be used to offer fans some clarity over the series’ finale.
Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label, explained, “We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team. Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”
The game was released on March 9, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC with a massive single-player campaign and a new multiplayer mode. It is the final game in the trilogy, and it integrates the previous two titles in such a way that decisions made by players in those offerings will have direct effects on the way the events pan out in this one. The Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut free DLC is yet to receive a firm release date. It has however been confirmed, that it will be outed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this summer.
