Titanfall runs at 792p on Xbox One at launch

Today is the launch day for one of the Xbox One’s most anticipated titles, Titanfall, but those eager to get into the first-person shooter are set to face a small disappointment. In its beta phase, the game was running at a resolution of 792p, and news is that even at launch, it will stick to the same number. With the Xbox One struggling to compete against the PS4 which seems to have a little problem at running games at the 1080p-60fps standard, this could come as quite a blow.

Titanfall

Respawn Entertainment, the developer of Titanfall has revealed this information through an interview with Eurogamer. The company’s lead engineer Richard Baker recently told the website that while they are currently sticking to 792p, they are working on increasing it in the future. Earlier reports had indicated that Titanfall’s final build would run at 900p, but the game’s makers have said that they’re going to experiment with either 1080p non-anti-aliased or 900p with FXAA.

They have also made it clear that they don’t wish to sacrifice anything for grabbing a higher resolution. Technically speaking, Titanfall is apparently not relying as much on GPU power as it is on ESRAM utilization. That’s because the future increase in resolution numbers are not likely to be resolved by switching away from multi-sampling anti-aliasing (MSAA) alone.

Anyway, early reviews of Titanfall which are still popping up have painted a decent picture of the game, and this is something Microsoft will be awfully pleased about, since it has undoubtedly pinned many hopes on this game for the success of the Xbox One console.
