Tribes: Ascend Hits Steam

Tribes: Ascend, Hi-Rez Sudios’ free-to-play first-person shooter which was hitherto only available via its official website, has been deployed on Steam by the indie developer. Released exclusively for PC in April 2012, this multiplayer title has been built using a modified version of Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.

Hi-Rez Studio touts the game to be the world’s fastest shooter, as it contains high-speed online multiplayer FPS gameplay which is accompanied by jetpacks, skiing, vehicles and multiple classes. It supposedly has over one million registered users, and the number is expected to increase significantly owing to its move to Steam where it’s being supported by international servers and language compatibility.

With the latest update that came in recently, the title offers a fresh Capture The Flag map called Stonehenge, a new Team Deathmatch map as well as a first-person spectator mode. The developer is currently working on localizing the title to support German, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese languages. While the beta versions of these languages are available in the latest patch, the final update will be released in the future.

Tribes: Ascend can now be downloaded via Steam for free. A Starter Pack is also being offered to Steam users at 9.99 USD (approx. Rs. 570). Said to be perfect for new players, this pack contains a lifetime 50 percent XP Boost, 4 Bonus Weapons for base classes, 2 class unlocks, 4 Perks and 800 Tribes Gold. It will only be available till July 4.
