Tribes: Ascend Released as Free-To-Play Title

‘A fast-paced sci-fi multiplayer’ is what Hi-Rez Studios is calling its newly released free-to-play game, Tribes: Ascend. Available for PC in the form of a digital download, this offering has just completed its beta testing and has gone live now on its official website.

Claimed to be the world’s fastest shooter, the title kicks in jetpacks, skiing, vehicles, team-based gameplay as well as graphics that have been powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 technology. The release build of the game comprises a total of nine playable classes, five distinct modes and sixteen maps. Moreover, it also includes a preview of the Custom Server functionality which is expected to be introduced soon.

Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios COO, shared, “For the past 15 months, we’ve had a very passionate dev team working hard toward this goal. Along the way some publishers told us modern gamers couldn’t handle an FPS that was fast-paced and skill-based. We believe otherwise. Players seem to agree since we’ve had well over 500,000 join our beta. We’re excited to now grow the community further with the official release.”

The developer has even revealed a bunch of statistics which were counted during the game’s beta. Over 575,000 players participated in the testing phase, while more than 150 million player kills were performed throughout. Furthermore, over three million flag captures are also said to have been carried out by players. Apart from the content that was available within the beta, a CTF map named Raindance and a new game mode called Capture and Hold are some of the additions to the release version.

Tribes: Ascend can be downloaded now for free through its official website.
